Alex Hofgren - Bio and Statement

Biographic Story

Alex Hofgren was born and raised in Miami, Florida, of an editorial mother and a scientific father. She spent her childhood fishing, swimming, and of course painting. She studied art at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York, and The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.

She is a founding member and past president of The Art Group, a non-profit corporation and co-op gallery in Mt Jackson, Virginia.

When not pursuing art, she spends her time farming and raising horses.

Artistic Statement

For Alex, art has always been a journey of discovery and an intellectual exercise. The exercise is to see and understand more about a subject, and then refine the techniques for expressing that subject in art. Sometimes this involves heightening the color, or editing out all but the essential elements, while still staying within the realm of realism. Hopefully, the end result is a piece of art which provokes thought, emotion and/or new insights on the part of the viewer. That is the goal.
